Have Questions?

Frequently Asked Questions

ITS is the application of advanced and emerging technologies (computers, sensors, control, communications, and electronic devices) in transportation to save lives, time, money, energy and the environment. It represents the integration of information and communications technology with transport infrastructure, vehicles and users.

Benefits include safety improvements, enhanced mobility, customer satisfaction, cost savings, improved service levels, and socioeconomic benefits. An ITS deployment designed for safety will typically also provide indirect benefits to mobility and user satisfaction.

An ITS strategic plan provides a comprehensive roadmap that sets the direction and pace of ITS investments in a coordinated manner. It identifies viable, cost-effective projects for short, medium and long-term goals. Malaysia's ITS Strategic Plan was endorsed by Cabinet in 2002, with the Ministry of Works leading implementation.

The ITS System Architecture is a blueprint that defines the elements of a system and how they integrate. It promotes interoperability between components, identifies critical standards, ensures national and international compatibility, and prepares Malaysian industries for the emerging ITS market in ASEAN countries.
